KILLARNEY 4X4
Killarney 4×4 Trail Overview
What?
One of KZN’s most popular 4×4 trails with ample to do for the whole family, whether you’re having a weekend away, or a fun day out.

Why?
There aren’t many 4×4 trails in South Africa that offer so much rock and water in one location. The trail boasts several rivers and streams in which you can safely test your water-crossing abilities, as well as a host of naturally weathered 4×4 tracks that are rocky, slippery, and covered in cross axles. You’ll also find a large variety of tight tracks that criss-cross one another through a sandy play pen. There are several white-knuckle hill ascents and descents closer to the trail’s campsite and picnic area, as well as pools of mud and a few man-made obstacles – great to warm up on before hitting the trail proper.

Where?
The trail can be found in Shongweni Valley, Outer West Durban, KZN.

When?
Killarney 4×4 is open seven days a week, and all year round. Gates open at 08h00 and close at 18h00.

How?
The trail caters for a wide variety of vehicle types, and various driver experience levels. The rocky mountain routes, however, demand a certain degree of driver confidence and a vehicle that sports at least 220mm of ground clearance. A rear diff-lock may also be advisable. (At the very least, you’ll have to pack some rocks.) The trail also features a few heavily eroded ruts, so don’t become complacent or forget to watch where you’re going.
